Become a cast member for our 2017-2017 production!
Are you homeschooled? Interested in acting? Do you love stories?
All the World's a Stage Players puts on a play every year, and all participants who sign up get a part! Our actors are the ages of 10-18, as of September 1st, 2017.
We're a theatre group focused on education. Our final production means the world to us, but we shine in our rehearsal process: AWSP focuses on learning to act, read, and analyze stories and characters, and involving the actors in all aspects of production, from fight choreography, to lighting, to music and sound, to set and props. Older students in the program become Assistant Director Apprentices, and are given the opportunity to direct parts of the play themselves. This year, we have an alumni of the program returning to compose music and assistant direct.
Our official program begins in September, with four weeks of free workshops. This gives families an opportunity to try the program before they commit to being there for the year. In this first month, we play acting games and get to know the story we'll be working with. For the 2017-2018 season, we'll be rehearsing and producing Shakespeare's fantasy play, the tragicomedy The Tempest. The first week in October, we hold auditions, which are structured to be a non-intimidating process. Families are asked to pay tuition and commit to the program this week – if a student auditions, they will become a member of the cast. There are no small parts at AWSP, especially because this is an education-based program. All students, in every part, will learn about acting, Shakespearean history, and producing a show. No experience is needed to participate, just the desire to learn, to work hard, and to have fun!
Tentative schedule: September-December 2017 – Fridays, 10:00am-1:00pm January-March 2018 – Fridays, 10:00am-2:30pm Tech week, dress rehearsals, and performance dates TBA. This year, we'll have four performances of The Tempest, at our wonderful space, the auditorium at Chelmsford Center for the Arts in Chelmsford, MA.
Sound interesting? We'd love for you to join us! Please read the premise of The Tempest below, and send us a message on our Facebook page, or through our "Contact Us" form on this website. More information about open houses and summer opportunities to meet forthcoming!
Shakespeare's fantastical tragicomedy The Tempest hinges on a decision: revenge or forgiveness? 12 years ago, Prospero, the Duke of Milan, was betrayed by his brother and banished to an island in the middle of the Mediterranean sea, with only his beloved magic books. For the past decade, he's conquered the island, enslaved it's inhabitants, raised his daughter Miranda, and plotted the ultimate revenge on his brother and the King of Naples. A pair of drunkards, multiple plans to kill the king, love-at-first sight, two otherwordly servants vying for freedom, and the most tremendous storm in all of literature and drama.
